I have been investigating the possibility of having candida overgrowth for a few months. I have seen cleanses and diets. I don't know which direction to go.
I am a 43 year old healthy female and had some kind of weird fungus in my mouth. Was similar to thrush and I was treated with Nystatin oral. I am better but not 100%. I still have sore gums and some signs still on the sides of my cheeks. I have tried to go sugar free but I get so sick. I don't know how to get through this. Should I do the cleanse and the diet or just the diet? I keep failing at the diet. I am looking for support.
Thank you for your letter.
I first want to reiterate that I am NOT a health-care professional. My info comes from personal experience, the experience of others and research.
1. Having said that, I am glad that Nystatin helped you. I believe that the key to a continuing reprieve from your "weird fungus" is diet. I understand that you feel worse when you diet. If you are staying away from sugar, gluten, yeast and dairy you will initially feel horrible because, as I understand, the fungus (candida overgrowth) in you is starving to death. Literally, it is dying. As they die, toxins are released. (Same when we die!) Now that may be simplistic, but it makes sense to me. And, when toxins are released, the body feels sick. I had bad headaches, huge fatigue - classic candida die-off.
But what's really sick is the fungus. When you make it through to the other side you will feel great! At least that was my experience. I felt as if a shade had suddenly gone up and the sun shined in! But it took a month of an extremely strict Step 1! No deviation. No cheating. Not even borderline. It was difficult for the first couple of weeks - pure will power (well more like won't-power combined with God-power!). But temptation couldn't even touch me during the second two weeks.
2. For your oral health, I have found that the most effective product out there for me is Nature's Answer Perio Wash (I also use Perio toothpaste). I discovered it in 2009 when the dentist who invented it was at a alternative health and natural product fair. I was shocked when a swab of my saliva revealed a plethora of bacteria! Yuk. Then he magnified a slide of his own saliva. I was blown away. NO BACTERIA! I mean NO bacteria. I was sold on Perio Wash and Toothpaste from that time!
You can also use Melaleuca Oil or salve in your mouth - usually called Tea Tree Oil. Great for canker sores....
I gargle with Raw Cider Vinegar for a sore throat - 1 capful of Cider Vinegar to half a glass of HOT water. Gargle and spit repeatedly until the last bit. Gargle and swallow that. You could try raw cider vinegar to rinse your mouth. Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar Miracle Health System states. "Even in good health, use ACV gargle twice weekly to remove any body toxins being eliminated through the throat tissues. The gargle is also helpful during fasting, when the throat may produce a stringy mucus as part of the detoxifying process!" He doesn't encourage swallowing cider vinegar because of the toxins it pulls out; however, I've found that it heals my throat all the way down when I use it for that purpose. You may want to buy Bragg's book.
Oregano is another fantastic anti-fungal product. I use oregano nasal spray and throat spray nightly to unclog my throat at bedtime (i.e. cut through mucus).
Every body is different. Therefore various anti-fungals will work better for some and less so for others, but for the best total body healing, I believe the Candida Diet regimen is the best foundation. So, I'd suggest you diet and also use the Perio Wash and or one of the other products I mentioned.
Please keep in touch and let me know how you are doing. I plan to post this information at www.candida-diet-center.com with links to some of the products.
